Oroshigane (Japanese Grater)

Today I used one of these at work:

I grated daikon, apple and onion. I thought it’d be cool to google the tool after work since it’s different from the typical western grater we’re all used to. Turns out, the Japanese [used to] use ones made of shark skin to grate fresh wasabi. Cool. I wonder if shark skin is like stingray skin…
